Liverpool are blessed to have one of the scariest frontlines in European football. Arne Slot is reaping the rewards of some individual brilliance, with Mohamed Salah having 52 goal contributions (35 goals, 17 assists).
Luiz Diaz and Cody Gakpo both have over 20 goal contributions, helping push the Reds towards the 2024/25 Premier League title. However, these players aren’t exactly ‘young’. Salah is 32 and there are question marks over his future as his contract expires this summer. Diaz is his late 20s and even Gakpo is 25.
Hence, the Reds can’t be blamed for scouting young attacking talents as they are now rumoured to have an interest in Real Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez.
The Daily Mail has reported that the Reds are monitoring the 19-year-old winger’s situation and are in the race to sign him in the 2025 summer window. Rodriguez has become an important player for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in the 2024/25 season, putting in impressive performances from the left-wing role.
It’s claimed that Liverpool are interested in a move for Rodriguez. The teenager has a release clause of around £42 million inserted into his contract at Real Betis. However, the problem is that the Reds are not alone in their admiration of the winger.
The Daily Mail also points at Chelsea being strongly interested and ready to take a step forward in their quest to sign the young winger. Spanish outlet Fichajes also claims that Liverpool see Rodriguez as a ‘future opportunity’ and could look to ‘renew’ their attack with his acquisition.
The 19-year-old winger has made 19 appearances for Real Betis this season, scoring one goal and providing two assists. Rodriguez’s best qualities have been described his ‘dribbling, speed and cheekiness’, with the youngster being able to burst past bodies with ease to cause danger. He can also operate on the right-wing and recently provided the assist for Johnny Cardoso’s goal in their 2-1 win over Real Madrid in La Liga.
Despite the 19-year-old’s potential, his hefty price tag could be an issue. Liverpool rarely pays huge fees for young players and could rely on Richard Hughes’ negotiation skills to help them rope in this player ahead of Chelsea.
