Real Madrid players reported to Montreal for their pre-season training last week. All the new signings were present on the first day, including the Japanese teenage sensation, Takefusa Kubo. The 18-year-old was signed this summer from FC Tokyo for £1.78m (€2m).
If the reports emerging from the first five days of the pre-season training are to be believed, the coaches have been really impressed by the Japanese. His nifty footwork and ball control have awed his teammates and the coaching staff alike.
However, the thing that has caught the most attention is the ease with which he has slotted into the team. There are quite a few videos of him from the training sessions that have been doing the rounds on social media.
Fans have been amazed by the skills that have been on display. His link-up play with the senior players and the ease with which he has glided past defenders have been a joy to watch for the Madridistas.
His style of play reminds them of a particular Argentine who has tormented this Real side for more than 10 years now. They don’t call him Japanese Messi for no reason.
Kubo will be playing this season for the Real Madrid B team, also known as Castilla. Although considering the way he has been playing, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him don the royal white at the Bernabeu come next season.
