The resurgence of the Milan clubs has breathed new life into the Derby della Madonnina. The Milan derby was never short of emotions but has again started to be the centre of attention with the advent of iconic and revitalized players such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku taking part in the contest.
Both were involved in the goals as Antonio Conte’s men completed an emphatic comeback after Zlatan put AC Milan 2 goals ahead with a goal just before half-time.
Former Manchester United frontman Romelu Lukaku took it to the celebration, suspected to be aimed at his former employers, to silence his critics after applying the finishing touch to the goal that put the match to bed.
The Belgian striker was a subject of heavy criticism from United fans, former players, the media as well as from the managerial staff for not delivering up to the expectations.
He expressed in an interview following his move to Inter that he didn’t feel ‘protected’ enough at Manchester and was made United’s scapegoat whenever the team struggled to get positive results.
Lukaku is putting in progressively better performances for the Milan side having already set a record for the Nerazzurri for becoming the fastest player in the club’s history to score 20 goals across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are still struggling to sort out their problems in attack with Marcus Rashford out injured for a long spell and having signed Odion Ighalo in an attempt to steady the ship.
