Manchester City vs. Liverpool has evolved into a blockbuster of a fixture in the Premier League in recent times. The two clubs have fiercely contested for the Premier League trophy in the past two seasons.
Back in 2018, Europe got to witness this rivalry on the biggest stage as the two teams met in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool more or less sealed the deal with a thumping 3-0 victory over Pep Guardiola’s side.
However, an off the field incident before the match caught equally devastating attention of the Citizens.
A crowd of Liverpool supporters attacked City’s team bus with various objects, including flares, missiles, and more famously, a bottle of Kopparberg, damaging the vehicle in the process.
The City fans on the internet tried to make more out of the situation than it was, with some fans blaming the incident for the eventual result of the match
Since then, the overreaction from the Citizens has become a sort of a running joke between the Liverpool fanbase.
And the banter seems to have returned as leaks of Manchester City’s 20/21 home kit surfaced online.
The ‘cracked’ pattern over City’s traditional sky blue color reminded the Liverpool fans of the infamous incident involving the Kopparberg bottle.
The design itself was something of an embarrassment for the Manchester City faithful. However, the Liverpool fanbase made sure that they make it even more miserable for the Citizens.
