Liverpool might have an able backup for first choice left-back Andy Robertson and his stunner of a left foot, as new signing Kostas Tsimikas pulled off a brilliant impersonation of his teammate with a delicious cross field ball in the Carabao Cup win at Lincoln City.
The Greek left-back received the ball from Virgil van Dijk with a perfectly weighted touch, as he opened his body up to spray a magnificent cross-field ball with his left foot to Neco Williams, the right-back on the night.
Tsimikas executed the pass with incredible technique, to such an extent that it seemed ridiculously easy to do it. It was a very close, if not perfect, impersonation of one of the many brilliant and effortlessly sublime switches of play as performed by the Merseyside club’s Scottish left-back.
Liverpool were unsurprisingly dominating against the League One side as they romped to a 7-2 victory, with goals from Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Grujic, Divock Origi and a brace each from Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones: as Tsimikas put on a brilliant display on the left side of defence, putting him up as worthy competition for the spot nailed down by Robertson in recent years.
Tsimikas joined the defending champions of England as their first signing of the summer transfer window for a reported fee of £11.7m last month, in order to finally replace the versatile veteran James Milner as a naturally left footed left-back: their first since the departure of Alberto Moreno.
The 24-year-old signed a first permanent deal for any club since he signed for Olympiakos in 2015, having been on a couple of loan spells at Esbjerg and Willem II in the meantime.
It has been a decent start for Tsimikas in his life in England so far, and Anfield will look forward to have yet another young, rampaging fullback running down the flanks for them for years to come in the future.
