In a frightening scenario, Schalke forward Mark Uth went unconscious after a head collision with Augsburg defender Felix Uduokhai during a Bundesliga fixture yesterday.
Cameras caught the Schalke man being knocked out while he was still in the air as Uth laid motionless for 10 minutes on the ground and was stretchered out of the pitch once he became responsive.
It must have been grim to see a fellow footballer go down like that as match official Manuel Grefe asked the players of both teams if they wanted to continue the match after the brutal collision.
As the action continued on the pitch, Schalke tweeted that Uth had recovered consciousness and was responding well.
The news provided relief to the players and fans alike, where the early scenarios indicated a much worse situation.
After the match, it was reported that Uth was diagnosed with a concussion as a result of the brutal exchange and spent the rest of the night at the hospital.
With fans all over wishing him speedy recovery, the Schalke Forward sent a message through club’s social media channels and assured the fans that he is doing ‘‘quite well’’.
After Uth was taken out due to injury, the teams continued to fight in a fiery contest that ended in a 2-2 draw.
Augsburg took the lead with a 32nd minute goal from Serdar and maintained the lead going into the second half.
Schalke then fought back and went ahead with two goals within 10 minutes and were looking poised to win the match but had to settle for a draw after Richter’s injury time goal.
