Chelsea won 1-0 against Spurs in last night’s Premier League encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A Jorginho penalty proved to be enough to secure all three points for the Blues, who were dominant throughout the outing and achieved a third consecutive clean sheet under new head coach Thomas Tuchel’s management, to inflict Spurs’ third loss in three games.
Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the 24th minute when Eric Dier clumsily tripped Timo Werner in the penalty area. Andre Marriner pointed to the spot without hesitation, and it was Jorginho who stepped up to take the spot-kick.
There was no stutter in his run-up like expected, as Hugo Lloris was too late to react even after guessing the right way, for Jorginho to convert calmly to send Chelsea into the lead. It was the Italian international’s fourth goal of the league season, all scored from the spot.
Thiago Silva was soon forced off due to an issue with his thigh, as Andreas Christensen was sent on to get his first minutes under the new head coach.
Spurs went close twice in the second half through half chances falling to Carlos Vinicius and Son Heung-min but did not do enough to test Edouard Mendy in goal for Chelsea.
The visitors dominated possession and had the lion’s share of chances, as José Mourinho’s side sat back all through the game and would not have a lot of complaints with the result. It was Chelsea’s first win against a top-six side as Thomas Tuchel claimed his first big scalp. The Blues have made it two wins out of three in the new manager’s regime so far.
The win lifted Chelsea to sixth place, four points behind fourth-placed Liverpool as they would travel to Sheffield United next. Spurs slumped to their third consecutive loss in the league, as they dropped to eighth and would host West Bromwich Albion in their next outing.

This was great analysis from @rioferdy5 @jjenas8 and @sjsidwell on @btsportfootball. Jose Mourinho’s methods that brought him so much success won’t wash with modern players. We saw the same story at Man Utd pic.twitter.com/XehquV7GgQ
