The onset of February beckons the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League ever closer, as the sixteen teams left in Europe’s top-tier continental club competition gear up to face their drawn opponents over two legs.
Out of the numerous mouth-watering ties waiting to be played this month and the next, one particular tie stands out – French champions PSG will lock horns with Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
The two teams already have some bad blood in recent history, as Barcelona famously overcame a 4-0 deficit in the first leg and staged a comeback in extraordinary fashion, in the 2016/17 season of the competition.
Barcelona’s historical turnaround to win 6-1 in the second leg is still a moment much rued over by the PSG faithful, who were certain to keep hold of their comfortable lead and progress to the next round.
As a result, the Parisian support has begun to hold a grudge against the five-time European Cup winners. This grudge showed when a clip of PSG fans mocking Barcelona with an x-rated chant (puta Barca) went viral online.
The Parisians came together to mock the Spanish giants by chanting an expletive term ahead of their round of 16 tie against Barcelona, in a clip that has since done the rounds on social media platforms.
Even though Neymar is ruled out of both legs of the tie, a depleted Barcelona defence will still look to face off against global football superstars such as Kylian Mbappé, Ángel di María and Mauro Icardi.
Lionel Messi will lead his Barcelona team against one of his potential suitors in the summer to come, as Ronald Koeman will face off with Mauricio Pochettino and his star-studded outfit over two legs.
The Parisian outfit will look to put La Remontada behind them in the past, as they will hope to give their vocal faithful even more reason to rejoice with a win over their European rivals and advancing to the quarter-finals.
