Mason Mount broke out into the scene last season as one of the brightest talents of Frank Lampard’s youthful Chelsea side, but he has really made a name for himself this season – excelling under Lampard’s successor as well.
The young English midfielder has started all but one of new manager Thomas Tuchel’s games in charge of the club and has established himself as one of the country’s top young players – even making his senior England debut last year.
Mount’s impressive technique, a sharp football brain and an engine that any manager would love to have in his arsenal made sure that the 21-year-old has been an integral cog in Tuchel’s machine since his appointment.
As a result, one can say that Mount has been synonymous with Chelsea since his senior debut in 2019, and even further back in the past as he has been at the club since the tender age of six.
The fans adore him, his connection to the club and what he brings to the table, and so do the Chelsea players – as it was proved when Antonio Rudiger crowned him with the title of “Mr Chelsea” in his recent Instagram story when the central defender was replying to Mount’s wish on his birthday.
The Chelsea faithful will undoubtedly love the nickname bestowed on him as it exemplifies what Mount means to the club at the moment – an undroppable asset who puts anything and everything on the line for his beloved club.
Mount, along with Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Fikayo Tomori became the go-to academy graduates for Lampard last season – a season where the West London club were banned from spending in the transfer window.
Despite the odds stacked against them, Chelsea finished fourth on the points table to secure Champions League football for this season.
More of the same followed after the season break – Mount excelled again as a regular for Lampard at the start of this season, even going on to captain his boyhood club against Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup – in a game that proved to be Lampard’s last in the dugout.
