Paris Saint-Germain ultras are gearing up for their second leg of this season’s UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie against Barcelona. The Parisian outfit went to the Nou Camp last month and proved to be excellent on the night as they secured a 4-1 win away from home courtesy of a Kylian Mbappe hat-trick.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side would welcome their opponents to the Parc des Princes this Wednesday, in a stadium that would have been booming with thousands of PSG supporters backing their team – if not for the social distancing restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.

Even though fans would not be allowed to watch from the stands, they certainly made their presence be felt with a show of support in the French capital today – an occasion which ended up making the news because of a sexist banner aimed towards Colombian singer Shakira.

Shakira is one of the most globally recognized faces in the music industry and has had ties with football ever since she performed preceding the FIFA World Cup final in 2006.

Shakira also composed the official theme song for the next World Cup four years later in South Africa, a tournament in which she met Spanish defender Gerard Pique – and ended up getting hitched.

Shakira’s claim to fame in Spain is being married to the World Cup-winning defender, and she is known for attending games at the Nou Camp – but no one would have predicted her to become the target of football fans once again ahead of their clash against Barcelona.

The PSG ultras were seen to carry a banner in French, which translates to “Shakira to Jonquera” – La Jonquera is a city in Spain famous for prostitution. The distasteful banner was deemed to be a disgraceful attempt at building up to the big occasion and portrayed a sexist, misogynistic sentiment for next to no reason – something that needs to be strictly looked down upon in today’s day and age.
