Jorginho is the top-performing Premier League player of 2021 according to CIES Football
According to a new algorithm developed by Switzerland-based researchers CIES Football, Jorginho has been the best performer in the Premier League during the first trimester of 2021.
The same algorithm also puts the Chelsea player as the best midfielder on the planet considering he is currently 3rd – below Messi and Lewandowski – on the performance index across Europe’s top 5 leagues.
According to CIES, the methodology takes into account six areas of technical play (shooting, take on, recovery, rigour, distribution, chance creation) and compares players “irrespective of their position”.
The players also need to have played at least two-thirds of minutes to be included in the rankings during this period.
The Italian international has divided opinions among Chelsea fans since his arrival at the club back in 2018. His stocks fell further with the arrival of Frank Lampard at the club as the Englishman barely used Jorginho but his importance to the side has come to fore with Thomas Tuchel at the helm now.
Jorginho remains very important to this current Chelsea Squad and what they want to achieve this season. The Blues are fighting on two fronts with a juicy Champions League quarter-finals tie against Porto to look forward to in the next few weeks, along with the fierce battle for the highly coveted top four spot on the Premier League points table.
