Erling Haaland generated immense power to smash a low drive from a tight angle past Lukas Hradecky in the Leverkusen goal as Borussia Dortmund took an early lead at Westfalenstadion.
Haaland has almost gone a goal per game for Dortmund this season as he has now scored 40 goals in 41 matches in all competitions. Quite remarkably, he has also provided 12 assists so far.
A goal of significant stature as the Norwegian striker became the first Under-21 player to reach the 40-goal mark in a season with a European Top 5 club in an official competition since Ronaldo with FC Barcelona in 1996/97.
For comparison, both Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe hit their first 40-goal season at the age of 22, Cristiano Ronaldo at 23 and Robert Lewandowski at 27.
