Giorgio Chiellini pumped his fist in the air and high-fived his teammates after making a last-ditch tackle in the 93rd minute as Italy stamped their authority with a 3-0 win against Turkey in Rome.
With Burak Yilmaz through on goal, the veteran Juventus defender had to come up with something special to stop the Turkey captain and something special he did as he quickly lunged to thwart the shot away from Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal.
The 36-year-old followed the challenge with a celebration that showed his dedication to protecting the clean sheet.
It was an unexpectedly high tempo brand of football on display from the Azzurri as Turkey couldn’t manage a single shot on target.
Giorgio Chiellini was one of the many Italian players who excelled in their roles as the captain displayed an exhibition of prowess both with and without the ball at the Stadio Olimpico.
