England manager Gareth Southgate delivered an emotional post-match interview as the Three Lions progressed to the 2020 European Championship quarter-finals after defeating Germany in their Round of 16 encounter at Wembley on Tuesday.
England were at their best in the second half of the match under the Wembley arch, as goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane helped them defeat the Germans to make the last eight of the competition.
The England supporters – used to knock-out stage heartbreak especially against their old rivals – were visibly ecstatic about the result.
But it wasn’t just the players and the fans who felt a sense of relief. The man-in-charge, Gareth Southgate, finally managed to put the demons of his past to bed. It was his ill-fated penalty that caused England to crash out of the 1996 EURO against Tuesday’s opponents.
But 25 years on, the story ended very differently as the Three Lions would go on to fight for their pride.
