Luke Shaw has earned himself a nickname that all players in his position would be proud of as the Manchester United left-back is currently the protagonist of one of the biggest redemption stories happening in football.
From being mocked because of his weight, the former Southampton player has seen a complete turnaround when it comes to his perception among the media and fans.
Having already racked up three assists, Shaw has been one of England’s stand-out performers in the 2020 European Championship so far.
The 25-year-old’s stocks are currently so high that he is referred to as ‘Shawberto Carlos’ among fans, and it seems the England players as well.
New footage from England training show Declan Rice and Harry Kane bestowing Shaw with a complimentary nickname comparing him to Roberto Carlos.
While Rice called him “Roberto Shaw”, Kane was a little more creative in his approach as he addressed Shaw by the name “Shawberto Carlos”–as a nod to the legendary left-back.
Shaw looked visibly delighted with the honorary (and very catchy) nickname bestowed on him, and so were his teammates who would hope for the left-back to keep up his rich vein of form ahead of an important EURO 2020 semi-final clash against Denmark.
His trademark deliveries into the box both from set-pieces and from the open play will be extremely necessary if the Three Lions are to get past the Danes and progress into the final to finally bring home football – as well as their first international trophy since 1966.
The boys know.
