Kai Havertz has well and truly become a cult hero amongst Chelsea supporters worldwide after his goal for the Blues in the Champions League final against Manchester City.
The German scored the only goal in what was a 1-0 win for the Blues in Porto, as he got on the end of a Mason Mount through ball, rounded Ederson and slotted the ball into an empty net
The goal secured the west London outfit’s second Champions League title, as well as a permanent place in the memories and hearts of every Chelsea supporter across the globe.
His cult hero status was on display when Chelsea marched out to the pitch in their Mind Series clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
As fans finally returned to Stamford Bridge in full capacity for the first time since March last year, the Champions League trophy was brought out and presented by the players before the match.
As the match announcer was reading out the names of the starters before kick-off, every name got a decently loud cheer from the fans – but it was Havertz who got the loudest cheer by far when his name and number was read out at the stadium.
Stamford Bridge roared with applause to cheer their German hero who wrote his name into club folklore with one of the best goals to be scored in the history of the club – all after he had a tough season adjusting to a new country and a new league amidst a pandemic at the age of 21.
Havertz has looked to be in good touch in both of his pre-season outings so far and is raring to go even harder for the upcoming season, as he looks to prove that his Champions League final heroics was not just a flash in the pan.
