One of the most common questions Dutchman Donny van de Beek has faced since arriving at Manchester United is what his best position on the pitch is.
The midfielder was largely deployed as a number ten for his previous club Ajax, but has revealed that he actually prefers to play in a central midfield role.
For a little over a year now, the Dutch midfielder has been struggling to find his best position at Manchester United.
The 24-year-old has endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford, but he is adamant that he’s going to prove his worth.
In an interview with Rio Ferdinand’s Vibe with Five, van de Beek has revealed the position he feels most comfortable in – one for which he isn’t being used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Where does Donny van de Beek play best?
Van de Beek prefers to switch positions and is interested in taking on a more defensive role. He learned his skills as a number 10, but he feels more comfortable playing further back.
“Yes. I think what I’ve said before, also, I like to play 8 or 6. It’s fine.
“They know me because in Ajax they was playing me number 10 a lot. Yeah, I can also play as a number 8 or 6.”
“I think I can [play as a 6] but, of course, I don’t know what the manager thinks or what he expects from me. I’ve played in this role before with Ajax.
At the end of the day, Van De Beek doesn’t care what position he plays as long as he is out on the pitch.
