Crystal Palace were humiliated by Liverpool at Anfield in what was a thumping victory for the Merseyside club.
The 3-0 scoreline reflected Liverpool’s dominance over the match, with Patrick Vieira’s side only managing two shots on target in the whole game.
The side that started the match contained plenty of new faces for Liverpool.
Especially in defence, as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas, and James Milner all started in a back four that was completely different from the team that Klopp selected in the Champions League opener against AC Milan.
With Trent-Alexander Arnold missing the game due to illness, it was James Milner’s selection at right-back that raised a few eyebrows, despite having played in the position before.
But the veteran showed why he was selected, shutting down his doubters with a machine-like performance.
He allowed no chances to the Eagles and was a major threat going forward.
He was exceptional at right-back, rarely giving away an inch as he made it difficult for the likes of Wilfried Zaha to create chances.
The match rarely saw any defensive errors from Milner’s side as the former City man delivered a performance that showed how devastating he can be.
Liverpool fans were delighted to see the Englishman perform well, but it wasn’t until MOTD released a graphic about Milner’s performance that many knew what he’d done.
This graphic highlighted Milner’s incredible work rate, which was simply paramount to Liverpool’s success on Saturday.
Milner had the most touches on the ball (113), made the most passes (69), made the most passes in the opposition half (40), made the most crosses (13), and made the most number of tackles (4).
Hell, he even covered the most distance (10.93 km) of anyone in the pitch while having the most number of sprints (19), which is just sheer insanity.
Safe to say, James Milner went full f*cking beast on Palace.
