It’s been a week rife with incredible achievements for Alexia Putellas.
It began with her victory at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony as she became the third female footballer to win the coveted golden ball.
Following the momentous occasion, it was announced that Alexia would be awarded the Sant Jordi Cross by the Government of Catalonia. Joining the likes of Johan Cruyff and Leo Messi, she will become the only female footballer to be a recipient of the honour.
All these accolades have certainly attracted attention towards the Spanish International and as a result of that, she recently amassed 1 million followers on Instagram.
Maybe not as impressive as her other achievements, it certainly is notable as she joins a small crop of other female footballers who have achieved the same feat.
Before the ceremony, Alexia had 408,000 followers on her account and within 5 days of winning the award, she gained almost 600,000 new followers, an astonishing figure.

While Barcelona’s men’s side faced their fair share of issues last season, Barcelona Femeni remained a cause for pride for Culers everywhere.
Winning a historic treble last season, Barcelona outclassed almost every opponent they came across with the Blaugrana’s signature ‘tiki-taka’ brand of football.
The squad features plenty of world-class players but Alexia remains a standout as indicated by the rankings for the Ballon d’Or.
The Spaniard collected a staggering 186 votes, creating a hefty margin between her clubmate and second-placed Jenni Hermoso.
