The advent of social media has brought fans even closer to the action as these platforms offer an opportunity for supporters to connect with their favourite stars.
Footballers can often be seen using social media as a medium for expressing gratitude for the support they receive, whether it be sending a signed shirt or a simple exchange, both go a long way in making a fan’s day.
And recently fans came across two such instances.
John Terry
Chelsea Legend John Terry has only been on Twitter for a month, however, his short stint on the platform so far has offered plenty of entertainment for fans.
From dishing out savage replies to Spurs fans to recounting his remarkable achievements with his former club, John Terry quickly re-established himself as a man for the people and as Blue as they come.
More recently, Terry used his platform for a more compassionate reason.
A Chelsea fan posted a concerning message via her Twitter, citing mental health constraints she was evidently going through a difficult period.
The fan who was clearly in need of a pick me up received one from Terry in the form of a support message.
The former English international probably came across the worrying messages and decided to take initiative.
The message he sent stated the importance of supporters like her throughout Terry’s career, he asked her to remain positive and stay strong before signing off the letter with the words “Your Captain”, personifying the famous “Captain, Leader, Legend” sentiment.
The fan was overjoyed upon receiving the message, she took to Twitter and expressed her gratitude.
This 😍 means the world to me this man isn’t like most chelsea players he genuinely cares for us chelsea fans 💙 pic.twitter.com/kQ9YhA5rVB

Dele Alli
Many had written off Dele Alli after he fell out of favour with former manager Jose Mourinho.
The 25-year-old was touted as one of the best talents in the world no more than 4 years ago, his fall from grace has been unfortunate.
His stocks further fell after his performances under former manager Nuno Espirito.
To his credit, Dele continued to show effort especially when called upon to defend more by the Portuguese manager.
Nonetheless, initial signs under Antonio Conte have been positive and offer hope for a resurgence.
After positive showings against Liverpool and then West Ham, a return to form looks to be on the cards.
Fans have begun to take notice and one in particular who was a persistent Dele supporter, at least self admittedly, sent Dele messages of support via Instagram.
To his shock, the midfielder replied to his messages and offered to send a signed shirt.
Apparently, these weren’t the only messages the fan had sent Dele, but this time around the Spurs man took notice and displayed an act of kindness, making the fans day.
