Atlético Madrid edged past third-tier Rayo Majadahonda with ease in a Copy del Rey clash at Wanda Metropolitano to reach the last 16.
Taking no chances, Diego Simeone fielded a strong squad that scored 5 goals from five different players on the night.
Aside from the goals galore, home supporters were treated to an entertaining game of football courtesy of Atletico’s Joao Felix who put on an impressive display.
Brought in as a substitute for Luis Suarez, the young Portuguese came out with all guns blazing, nutmegging two opponents with his first touches of the ball.
Felix collected a pass from goalkeeper Jan Oblak near the sideline and ran rings around an opponent that left him chasing shadows. This was followed by a quick one-two with Ángel Correa before the 22-year-old nutmegged another opponent, whizzing past Gorka Iturraspe without difficulty.
Felix appeared to be in his element and went on to put on a show displaying Portuguese flair with oomph.
He showed his mastery on the ball with another skill move inside the opponent’s box in the 74th minute of the game.
Felix chipped the ball up after receiving a pass and flicked it with a backheel while in the air. Though the pass didn’t find any Atletico player, it was nevertheless an exquisite move, one which required technique as much as the presence of mind.
The Portuguese international capped off a brilliant night to fire his team into the next round only the way he knew how to slot the ball into the top right corner to make it 5-0.
