Liverpool striker Diogo Jota had an evening to remember against Leicester City in the Premier League on Thursday.
The Portuguese striker scored a brace for his side and ensured the 3 points of Liverpool.
Aside from the highlights, he did have an unfortunate scare, one that could make viewers cringe a little.
In a clip that surfaced after the game, Jota can be seen in a bit of trouble after his foot got crammed in the advertising boards.
The 25-year-old struggled to lift his foot out, and even the stewards assisting him looked worried.
The whole affair is a scary sight, especially considering the player’s welfare.
Jota eventually managed to lift out his foot but the space was so tight that his boot ended up falling off.
Liverpool’s medical staff can also be seen rushing to check on the player.
The incident led to some worry from fans and also to a general discussion about how unsafe edges of the pitch can be.
While Anfield does afford a bit of space, pitches like that of Old Trafford have slopes on their edges, and it’s common to see players drifting off them and clattering into the advertising boards.
And as such, perhaps there’s a bit more that can be done to ensure the players’ safety in situations like these.
