The inevitable has finally happened, Joel Matip has now successfully converted one of his attacking ventures. It occurred during Liverpool‘s 6-0 thumping of Leeds United. The Merseyside Reds were at their emphatic best on the night, and even Matip managed to grab a goal.
The Cameroonian went off on one of his offensive forays before attempting a give and go with Mo Salah. On the pass back, Matip produced a wonderful first-time finish, one any striker would be proud of.
Aside from the goal, fans also noticed a wholesome moment between Matip and Virgil van Dijk.
The pair share great camaraderie on and off the pitch and were solid as ever again throughout the game. Their bromance often goes unnoticed despite being one to be jealous of, don’t believe us? Well, just have a look at the compilation below.
Matip’s celebration gave fans another brilliant moment featuring the two. As the Reds celebrated the goal, Van Dijk grabbed the collar of Matip’s shirt and held it aloft. This proudly displayed the name on the back of the shirt for all of Anfield to see. The pair then shared an emphatic embrace before returning to their positions.
The victory now puts Liverpool within reach of league leaders Man City, with a difference of 3 points separating the two. It would be an incredible feat if the Reds manage to catch City at this stage, especially considering how unlikely a comeback looked just a few weeks ago.
