Footballers have always perhaps felt the need to stand out with their fashion choices, being global sporting icons.
But sometimes fashion choices could go very wrong as well and could have the opposite effect on fans. For instance, Mario Balotelli’s bizarre hand-shaped woolly hat or Tom Davies’ strange scarf and dressing gown combination shocked fans and drew heavy criticism for these fashion fails.
But despite the flak, it looks like footballers have kept alive this trend with the latest addition to the list being Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The Englishman was recently spotted on Friday signing autographs for fans while sporting a pair of ‘moon boots’ which has turned many heads after pictures of them surfaced online as well.
The boots are yellow in colour and appear to be really baggy and loose and seem to resemble moose hooves with the design. There appears to be a shoe tie in the front to adjust the fit for any size but its distinct design still has fans appalled.

According to reports, the boots are a part of Spanish luxury fashion brand Loewe’s latest collection that is yet to be available for sale. While the price for these particular pairs is unknown, Loewe’s official website displays shoes priced between £295 and £1300.
The boots and Phillips’ baggy outfit that he paired with the pair have also caught the eye of international teammate and Man City forward Jack Grealish who issued an ultimatum to the Leeds man while replying to one of Phillips’ posts on Instagram.
Grealish wrote – “Good to see you back bro ❤️ and if you ever wear them shoes and that outfit again I’m unfollowing you”.
Phillips has been out injured for Leeds since December 2021 due to hamstring trouble and did not feature for the English national team during this period.
But after 119 days, the Englishman made his return during Leeds’ game against Southampton on Saturday after coming on as a substitute in the second half.
As he caught the attention for both his return back from injury and for the strange ‘moon boots’, it looks like Phillips has managed to have an impact both on and off the pitch during this week.
