Long gone are the days when a footballer was supposed to show up, have a kickabout, and then take his leave.
Nowadays, they’re often larger than life figures, each with their own brand and distinct personalities.
Players are afforded much more space to express themselves, an attitude that extends to off-field activities as well. It’s common to see stars venture into the world of fashion, and try their hand at modelling.
The latest in line is Everton forward Dominic Calvert Lewin.
The striker stars on the latest cover of GQ Hype, sporting outfits that have been divisive, to say the least. Coupled with an interview that includes insights into his mentality, the feature presents Calvert Lewin at his ‘flamboyant’ best.
His eccentric outfits include this ensemble featuring a collarless Gucci coat-cum-dress finished with a spray of the brand’s interlocking G’s.
Complimenting his tall stature, most of the fits are big in nature, often paired with a designer handbag.
The cover outfit, along with the subtitle ‘bringing fashion back to football’, showcases the Everton man in a Bottega Veneta bouclé two-piece in denim, paired with a £3,900 quilted-leather Chanel handbag from his personal collection.
Other designer wear includes this attire, featuring a mellow Prada top partnered up with trousers from the same brand, a fit which could set you back £3,200.
Naturally, the unconventional looks were not to everybody’s liking. Nevertheless, going by the interview, that isn’t going to stop the striker “For me, wearing clothes and suits that divide opinion is what I like doing, so I’m going to continue doing it.”
