Rarely do we see a big name signing settle in so seamlessly at an elite club, especially one which occurred during the January transfer window.
Such is the case of Liverpool‘s Luis Diaz, who already looks all set to be a top player for the Reds after completing a £37m move back in January. Signed from Porto, the Colombian international has been at Anfield for a matter of months, yet he’s already begun to blend into Liverpool’s front 3.
While he isn’t starting every game just yet, based on his performances it’s safe to say that it won’t be long until the 25-year-old is one of the first names on the teamsheet for the Reds.
Furthermore, it appears that the Colombian has already earned his gaffer’s trust, as Klopp often subs Diaz on whenever a low block requires dismantling.
This was visible during yesterday’s Merseyside Derby.
Everton had done well to keep Liverpool at bay for the majority of the game, and soon Klopp rang in the changes.
In came Luis Diaz, and his impact was apparent almost immediately
While he had little contribution in Andy Robertson’s opener, he played a big role in opening up the game.
A constant threat down the left flank, Diaz stretched Everton’s backline effortlessly. He also showed his composure at the big stage as he pulled off this ridiculous touch with his side foot.
A little hop in the air, perfectly in sync with the dipping ball, and a final touch which made time stop. Safe to say, Neymar would be proud of that one.
He followed up the exquisite footwork by drifting past Seamus Coleman with ease and lashing in a cross.
With Liverpool’s quadruple aspirations firmly on target, Diaz has already shown that he can play a decisive role in achieving that dream.
As for the Premier League race, victory on Derby day meant that Liverpool kept pace with leaders Man City, who remained ahead by a single point.
