Next season is all set to be a milestone year for Real Madrid, as they will celebrate their 120th anniversary.
Such a momentous occasion called for a special kit, and the sportswear brand Adidas have duly delivered. Through their latest design, Los Blancos are looking to “celebrate the past, present and future”.
As for the design, Adidas delves deep into Real’s history and brings back the purple shade which featured on the club’s kits during the 1980s and 1990s.
The iconic white remains the primary colour and pale purple accents feature all across the shirt. The three Adidas stripes placed on the shoulder opt for a light purple shade, the kit also features a classy buttoned collar.
On the polo collar, black and purple trims are present, adding a stylish finish. Sponsor logos go all black and combine seamlessly with white to round off the design.
The Real Madrid crest has been subtlely embossed into the fabric, adding another layer of detailing. Another classy inclusion is the presence of an insignia near the collar, which reads ‘120 anos’ (120 years).
Even the font on the back receives a retro touch, with bold lettering, reminiscent of the 2002 kit, being utilised.
The kit was mostly received positively by fans, although complaints of a lack of variation were present.
An all-white base paired with a collar led many to compare the shirt to cricket kits, specifically those used in the Test format.
