Eintracht Frankfurt got the better of Rangers in the penalty shootout of the UEFA Europa League final, lifting the second most coveted title in European club competitions.
The fans of the German club were more than ecstatic and had a sweet ride home from Seville. But unfortunately for the Rangers’ faithful, things got worse when an unexpected entity came forward to pile on their misery.
Ryanair, a low-cost Irish airline, responded to a tweet by a Celtic fan on Twitter that irked every Rangers fan out there. The Hoops fan shared an image of Frankfurt’s players carrying the Europa League trophy before asking the airline whether they would charge any extra buck for the trophy.
And the airline couldn’t resist but offer a witty reply, taking a full dig at the situation of the Rangers. “Trophy free, we’ll charge for Rangers tears instead,” was the response from the official Twitter account of Ryanair.
This befitting and sharp-witted response helped RyanAir gain some new fans and customers while Rangers fans were livid, having lost a major European cup final when their arch-rivals, Celtic, can still boost about a European cup they won back in 1967. Rangers’ fans were defending themselves in full CAPS, but Ryanair outsmarted them with each of their replies and never lost their footing.
Although, it’s also a relief for Celtic fans as their nemesis will not have an automatic entry to the Champions League next season and will have to play and endure a few more qualifiers to get there.
Eintracht Frankfurt had some extra luggage to take back to Germany, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men had to return empty-handed and had Ryanair making their life a living hell on Twitter.
Here are some of the hilarious remarks and jibes that Ryanair went with to show that when it comes to dry humour, they are truly second to none.
