Riding on the highs of their triumph against Liverpool at home, Manchester United earned their first away victory this season at St Mary’s against Southampton.
The Red Devils fielded an unchanged lineup from the victory against Liverpool, and eventually picked up the victory on the back of a wonderfully placed strike from Bruno Fernandes.
It wasn’t an easy win by any means, although United looked far more comfortable in defence, especially in comparison to their displays against Brighton and Brentford.
As for the Saints, some fixing up of the rear guard is required, as they have now let in 8 goals in just 4 games. Their performance against United wasn’t exactly lacklustre, although they did lack potency in attack.
Nevertheless, there were positives to look upon for Ralph Hassenhutl, and one of them is recently recruited midfielder Romeo Lavia.
Formerly of Manchester City, the 18-year-old joined Southampton for a fee of £10m, and he has played every possible minute for the side ever since.
The game against United was a regular Premier League fixture for many, but for the Belgian, it was life coming full circle.
After the full-time whistle, the player took to Instagram to share a photo from the past.
Dating back to 2017, it displays him holding aloft a Borussia Dortmund shirt alongside Jadon Sancho.
The current United player joined the Black and Yellow back in 2017, and evidently, the 13-year-old Lavia got the chance to meet him.
Just below the throwback was an image featuring the both of them in action on Saturday, perfectly depicting just how far Lavia had come.
His inspirational story caught the eye of Sancho himself, who responded by saying, ‘You stuck to your dream and believed in yourself, that’s inspiring to see. Keep doing your thing bro, the world is at your feet. Very Special player.’
The wonderful story paired alongside a touch of class from England International gave fans a wholesome moment. The future looks bright for Romeo Lavia, who will be looking to follow in Sancho’s footsteps and join a top team in the near future.
