Sounds Familiar: Alexander Isak Gets Copycat Chant At Newcastle United

The final days of the summer transfer window saw Newcastle United finally perhaps living up to the billing of being the ‘new money’ in Europe after the club managed to secure the signing of Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad.

The English side offered a staggering €75 million for the 22-year-old Swede to make it a deal Sociedad could not refuse.

Having notched 33 goals in just over 100 appearances for the Spaniards, Isak’s arrival had Magpies fans expecting great things from the promising talent.

Surely enough, the Swede matched expectations after scoring against Liverpool at Anfield during his debut for Eddie Howe’s men.

The goal against the Reds quickly increased Isak’s popularity amongst supporters, especially for those sets of fans who were sceptical over the big-money signing.

Isak becomes the latest Swedish international to have had an instant impact since moving to the Premier League after Dejan Kulusevski’s arrival in January.

The Spurs man was sensational for Tottenham last season and looks to have continued his fine form this season by securing a place in the Spurs attack alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

For his faithful service to the club, Spurs fans rewarded Kulusevski with a chant composed to the tune of “Gimme Gimme Gimme” by Swedish group ABBA.

The song instantly became a catchy tune across the country with Spurs fans rolling out with pride during their away trips.

Now, it looks like Newcastle fans have taken a leaf out of their book and have gone and created a new chant for Isak to the tune of the same classic number.

While watching the game against Crystal Palace earlier this week, it looks like the chant was unveiled at Wonder Bar by Newcastle supporters which sounds very similar to the Kulusevski song.

Given Isak’s nationality, it was obvious that Magpies fans would choose this very song to make a chant for the player.

Although being very close to the Spurs chant, these Newcastle fans have tweaked the lyrics a little to make the song a distinct one.

“Gimme Gimme Gimme a Striker from Sweden,

He’s our Number 14 and he Plays in Attack.

Gimme Gimme Gimme a Striker from Sweden,

First Name’s Alexander and his Surname’s Isak.”

While the song certainly is catchy, Newcastle fans copying the idea has not gone down well with Spurs supporters who have been vocal about it on Twitter.

While it remains to be seen which song gets the more fan following, the neutrals would surely be happy with the signings of both Swedes who look set to flourish in the Premier League.

Wales fans first sang this in Dublin in 2018 –

Gimme Gimme Gimme a winger from Corwen
His name is Harry Wilson and he scores all the goals.

  2. Ywalgoch says:

Sorry Spurs. Wales fans have been singing this song to Harry Wilson for years.
