Recently, a clip has been doing rounds on Twitter, with Barcelona’s rising star Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, better known as Gavi, at its centre.
In a video that has accumulated a whopping 19.2 million views on Twitter, it seems to appear that a young female fan hands the 18-year-old her phone number.
Barcelona made one of their most promising recent additions a part of a new four-year contract officially on Wednesday (September 14).
An astounding €1 billion release clause—the largest in football history—is part of the starlet’s new deal, which runs through June 2026.
The €1 billion release clause is also part of his colleagues Pedri and Ansu Fati’s new contracts.
Barcelona arranged a special contract signing event for Gavi at Camp Nou a day after the official announcement, allowing supporters to see the midfielder who is on the rise.
At the ceremony, a female supporter asked Gavi to sign her Barca flag.
After Gavi had finished signing her flag, she went on to give him a small piece of paper that likely included her phone number.
While the midfielder appeared visibly baffled, he took the paper and did pose for a photograph with the fan.
Fans have generally been amused by this, with some reacting with praise for the girl for choosing to shoot her shot at the right moment, while some being impressed that the young football starlet, who is not yet known to have any romantic associations, has already become so popular among women.
Tancredi Palmeri, SportItalia correspondent tweeted, “Nothing to see, only Gavi getting chicks phone numbers during autograph session”.
A fan tweeted, “Did she just give Gavi her number like that? Shoot your shot, miss,” while another said, “That girl gave Gavi a paper with her number on it.”
Some are also making fun of the fanbase for resharing the clip so widely, with one tweeting, “There are so many virgins in our fanbase sharing it like they got the number instead of Gavi”.
In a turn of events many expected, it seems like Gavi has now followed the same girl on Instagram –
Gavi has played 53 times for Barcelona across all competitions since making his debut in a 2-1 La Liga victory over Getafe in August 2021.
He has six assists in addition to two goals. Gavi has 10 international caps for Spain (1 goal).
The teenager, who debuted at Barca last season and is now a crucial member of Xavi Hernandez’s team, is the most recent gem to come out of the La Masia academy.
In the 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich on Tuesday, he put on a brilliant performance that included Andres Iniesta-like flashes.
It is speculated that he will be taking up the number 6 jersey that is currently available in Barca.
