EA Sports’ FIFA games have always housed an immense database of teams, kits, stadiums, players and more, with all of them intractable in some manner.
For FIFA 23, the devs have finally brought managers into the fold as well, as announced during the extended career mode reveal.
In past versions, likenesses of real-life managers had a bit part presence in the game, mainly in the form of poorly rendered models who’d patrol around near the touchline during matches.
The upcoming entry, on the other hand, will allow players to hop in the shoes of a few world-class coaches, including the likes of Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel etc.
Their models have undergone extensive upgrades, guaranteeing a far more accurate representation.
But if these gaffers simply aren’t cutting it for you, Apple TV’s resident footy coach just might
That’s right, everyone’s favourite optimistic Yank, Ted Lasso is all set to feature in FIFA 23.
For the uninitiated, Ted Lasso is the main protagonist of a TV Show bearing the same name.
Played by Jason Sudeikis, Lasso is an American College Football coach who soon finds himself on English shores and at the helm of fictional Championship side AFC Richmond.
What he lacks in tactical acumen, he makes up for with sheer spirit and personality, making him a popular character in the realm of Television.
The links to FIFA came after Sudeikis posted a picture on Twitter, which displayed the actor in front of a pretty comprehensive facial capture rig, the likes of which are usually associated with Game Development Studios.
The image by itself would’ve been enough to get fans talking, but Sudeikis added a further hint through his caption, which included an amusing jibe at Mario.
As if it was required, FIFA’s official account basically confirmed the collaboration by themselves, by replying to the actor’s Tweet with the ‘Eye’ emoji.
The official announcement, alongside in-game footage, came soon after, following which fans aptly fastened their belts and hopped aboard the hype train.
EA isn’t just roping in Lasso, the entirety of AFC Richmond is going to feature in the game, alongside Nelson Park, their home venue.
The devs are really going all-out for this crossover, and if pulled off correctly, it’ll be a huge hit with the fans.
We, on the other hand, won’t be so forthcoming with our praise, at least not until we see Coach Beard prancing around the area alongside Lasso.
