Gareth Bale has tapped into a new business by launching a brand of beer ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This is in celebration of Wales’ first appearance in the World Cup after 64 years, something which the ex-Real Madrid man himself played a major part in accomplishing.
Bale has partnered with a local Welsh brewing company ‘Glamorgan Brewing Co’ to create a new golden ale and a lager beer – called ‘Bale Ale and Lager’.
The beer will hit retail stores before the World Cup and is priced at around £1.70 a bottle in Tesco stores around Wales.
This is somewhat surprising as the Welsh winger himself isn’t a big fan of alcohol, as he ‘doesn’t like the taste of it’ and abstains from drinking.
But he’s made this move for the benefit of grassroots football across the country.
The money that will be made from selling these drinks will be used to improve the grassroots structure around the country.
Bale said: “With this partnership, we aim to give something back to Welsh grassroots football, and in particular, we want to help develop football facilities across Wales on a local level.”
“We hope fans across Wales will be able to enjoy some Bale Ale and Lager as we head into the World Cup this year.”
In doing so, the Los Angeles FC star joins a rare club of footballers to have launched their own alcohol brand.
Denmark legend Brian Laudrup was one of the first to do so, as he launched his own gin and wine company in his nation.
The Laudrup Dry Gin and Rose Wine are available across Denmark and are inspired by their stay in Scotland – when he used to play for Rangers from 1994-1998.
Another footballer to have their own named brand of alcohol is ex-Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs.
Now his surname has gained quite fame among football fans due to its similarity to the f-word.
The German defender seemingly embraced that to create a new brand of liquor spirits called ‘NoFuchsGiven’ – which includes vodka, whiskey and rum.
It’s distilled in England itself and has a really great punch line, which states: “#NoFuchsGiven is more than just a brand. It is a lifestyle choice. It’s the mentality of being brave and bold. Breaking away from society’s norms and ripping up the rulebook. A way to express yourself, where there is NoFuchsGiven.”
Manchester United legend David Beckham has a number of brands named after him, and one of them includes alcohol as well.
He launched ‘Haig Club’ Scotch Whiskey in 2014. It is sourced from the CameronBridge distillery.
Bale becomes the latest to be added to this club, and he’s launched it at the perfect time as well, with thousands of fans expected to cramp into the bars in Wales to enjoy the World Cup experience.
