Cristiano Ronaldo gets himself in the news pretty frequently. And with good measure.
He is a 5-time Ballon d’Or holder, multiple Champions League winner, a living legend and arguably the greatest footballer ever.
He also is a 37-year-old striker with Manchester United looking to break off from an apparent toxic return to the club from where he made his name.
He has left games before the final whistle has been blown, refused to come on as a substitute and has been on the manager’s naughty list.
The Portuguese striker is well past his prime but might still have a few more battles left in him as the World Cup approaches.
An unplayable enigma once, and it breaks our hearts to see his fall from grace in the twilight of his career.
Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. is his first-born son who is adeptly following in his father’s footsteps. Nicknamed “Cristianinho”, the 12-year-old was born in California and is already showing good signs of forging a career in football.
He currently plays for Manchester United’s under-12s after signing for the club earlier in the year and also is seen training with his father frequently.
When Ronaldo was in Turin, Jr. was playing for Juventus’ youth side with glimpses of his talents going viral in that time.
In 2020, Ronaldo said: “We’ll see if my son will become a great footballer. He has potential. He is fast and dribbles well, but that is not enough. I always tell him that it takes work and dedication to have success. I won’t pressure him to become a footballer, but if you ask me if I want him to, yes I would like it.”
Football or not, Jr. has definitely picked up his father’s knack for trending in social media platforms with the latest video emerging of the young gun’s accent.
In the virally shared Snapchat clip, the individual holding the camera is seen asking Jr. to do 5 “press-ups” in return for showing him something.
Jr. asks him to swear on his “mum’s life” with a typical London accent and then proceeds to quickly do the exercise.
The entire incident takes place in what looks like a school’s locker room area.
Twitter users have erupted with many seeing the video as an act of bullying on Cristiano’s son, pressuring him to do the push-ups.
Many others have chalked it off as just two friends having fun as in the entire video, Ronaldo Jr. is seen smiling and joking around.
A separate video of the older guy’s sister has been shared online where she clarifies the situation and says her brother and Jr. are close friends.
Cristiano Ronaldo is very much an integral part of his son’s life and Jr. will be looking to make his father proud with his deeds.
He wants to be better at football than Ronaldo Sr. but as far as popularity is concerned, he is surely on the right track. Like father, like son indeed.
