Erling Haaland and his performances have been the main talking points of the Manchester City squad this season.
However, there’s another star on the rise, and City fans have started to take notice of him.
That rising star is none other than 22-year-old Julian Alvarez, who was signed by the club this recent transfer window from River Plate.
The young striker is showing no signs of slowing down and is on track to become a force to be reckoned with, playing for the Manchester outfit.
Man City played Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Thursday and with notable stars including Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, and Bernardo Silva being on the bench, it was the Argentine’s time to shine.
He stepped up to the striker role and delivered an excellent performance for his side, scoring a beautiful goal in the second half.
Cityzens were thoroughly impressed by the forward’s performance and appreciated him by singing a chant specially dedicated to him.
The chant is based on the song Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, an absolute classic from the 1970s.
The chant includes 4 lines and the lyrics go somewhat like this –
“He’s Man City’s and he’s Argentine,
Scoring goals in the Blue and White,
Scoring goals is what he does best,
And he goes by the name of Alvarez”
Going by the reactions on social media, it seems the chant is as popular amongst Argentines as it is with Man City supporters.
Alvarez has managed 7 goals and 2 assists in 19 appearances in all competitions so far this season. He has also received the call-up to represent Argentina in the 2022 Qatar World Cup squad.
It’s nice to see that Julien Alvarez is putting on brilliant performances for City and he’s also receiving the deserved recognition from the supporters.
Hopefully, he will maintain his form and play a decisive role in the squad alongside the Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland.
