Eager to get a jumpstart on their World Cup preparations, national sides are already beginning to arrive in Doha.
Among the latest arrivals was Australia, which has been placed in Group D alongside France, Denmark and Tunisia.
Clips and images of the Socceroos at their own personalized training complex landed online soon after their arrival, with midfielder Jackson Irvine instantly catching the eye through his choice of attire.
The St Pauli player rocked up to the scene wearing a classy retro kit, showing off his inner Celt he sported on the Bhoys’ home kit from the 1998/99 season.
A former Celtic player himself, Irvine’s kit also displayed the name of an Australian icon on the back, Mark Viduka.
Notably known for his blistering spell at Parkhead, Viduka netted 41 times in 48 games for Celtic, earning himself a move to Leeds United 2 seasons later.
The striker also captained the Socceroos during the 2006 World Cup and led them to the knockout stages.
The kit itself screams Celtic and bears plenty of ‘Hoops’, all running in green on a white base.
A faint yet intricate graphic can also be seen on them, depicting the club crest in its entirety.
The kit is quite the throwback, with Umbro’s logo hogging all the space in the middle being especially ‘retro’.
Fans from the land down under will be hoping that the midfielder can have a Viduka-esque impact on the national side, as they face tough competition in the group stage itself.
Australia will compete against World Champions France and dark-horses Denmark for qualification into the knockouts, barring a surprise from Tunisia of course.
Their World Cup campaign kicks off with a game against France on the 23rd.
