With the winter transfer window underway, many clubs have been busy conducting business, but none more so than Chelsea.
Heavy spending in the summer hasn’t deterred the Blues from breaking the bank once again, as the London outfit have sealed 4 first-team transfers thus far.
The likes of Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana and Mykhailo Mudryk have all been recruited, alongside the highly-exciting Joao Felix.
The Portuguese International joined the Blues on a 6-month loan from Atletico Madrid, the reported fee being in the range of £9m.
The 22-year-old made his debut at Craven Cottage against Fulham and received a fantastic reception from the travelling away support.
During his 59 minutes on the pitch, Felix showed strong flashes of his quality, bringing out various tricks and flicks from his arsenal.
Even his first touch in Blue was a positive one, as he chased down on a long ball and ‘megged his marker, before providing a decent cross. Pleased by the exciting early signs, Chelsea fans, who’ve had little to sing about, broke into song for their new No.11 by whipping up an impromptu chant.
Citing the rumours that previously linked Felix to Arsenal, the chant is pretty barebones but still decent given the short notice.
The lyrics are-
‘Joao Felix, oooooo,
Joao Felix, oooooo’
‘He came from Portugal,
He hates the Arsenal’
While the ‘hate’ part is a mere exaggeration, a report from The Athletic stated that Arsenal were the frontrunner for Felix’s signature before Chelsea leapt in.
The Blue delegation was able to sell Felix on the project, who quickly made up his mind on a move to Stamford Bridge.
Unfortunately for Felix, his debut in Blue was short-lived, as he picked up a red card for a studs-up challenge on Kenny Tete, leaving Chelsea a man down.
While his expulsion from the pitch was dismaying enough, the straight Red also means that Felix will be suspended for 3 more games, which certainly doesn’t bode well in terms of value from a 6-month loan.
Nevertheless, the prospect of Felix alongside newly-recruited Mudryk is an intriguing one, and Blues fans simply cannot wait to get a glimpse of the pair together.
