Chelsea fans have had to endure a living nightmare since the domestic season restarted after the Qatar World Cup. Since late December, they have only won two games and have experienced an awful goal drought.
This is even after spending over £600 million on transfers over the two transfer windows this season. That includes the acquisition of exciting young players like Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez and Noni Madueke to help fix things for Graham Potter.
10 points away from top 4
Nothing, however, has been fixed and things appear to be going from bad to worse for the London side. They’re out of all domestic cup competitions and appear to be on the verge of being eliminated from the Champions League by Borussia Dortmund.
They’re 10 points away from a top-4 place and it appears unlikely that they’ll make the Champions League next season.
Amid their horrible run of form, a major blame game has ensued within the Chelsea fan base.
The majority of the blame is of course being placed on Potter, who has lost the confidence of the majority of the fanbase. Most fans believe it was a mistake for him to come in as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement – citing his lack of ‘top-level experience’ as why it isn’t working out for him.
With that being said, the supporters have also turned on some of the Chelsea players for performing well below the standards this season.
Mason Mount faces unnecessary hate
The likes of Felix and Enzo are still finding a lot of support for their impressive performances since arriving. But the same can’t be said about some of the longstanding members of the squad.
Mason Mount, for one, is finding hate from a lot of Chelsea fans online. The Englishman might’ve played a key role in helping them win the Champions League in 2021, but that is almost a forgotten memory for some now.
Mount has struggled to inspire any kind of change in form for Chelsea this season, scoring three goals and providing six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.
He’s received a lot of hate for his inconsistent performances but is now also receiving hate for something as meagre as a TikTok skit.
Indeed, the English midfielder recently met up with hilarious interviewer Amelia Dimoldenberg. She can be remembered for being the host of the ‘Chicken Lunch’ episodes on YouTube.
Dimoldenberg also hosts the ‘Fake News’ shows – where she does mock-up interviews with famous footballers and tries to bring out their funny sides.
She recently met up with Mount for some kind of a mock interview too and did a funny little TikTok dance skit with him. The Chelsea midfielder can be seen doing a few hilarious dance moves – but this has rubbed a few fans the wrong way.
A lot of Chelsea supporters are lashing him with hateful comments for having time to do such silly TikTok skits rather than improve his form and try to turn things around for the Blues.
He’s currently injured and can’t really do much about their present results, but some fans don’t seem to take that into account.
However, Mount is also finding support from some Chelsea supporters – who are ready to support him through his tough times and find it ridiculous for him lambasted for something that is insignificant to how he is performing on the pitch.
Despite all the headaches over Chelsea’s results and questions around his contract negotiations, Mount appears to be trying to stay positive.
He’ll look to keep him motivated to make a swift return to action and help his side end this disastrous season strongly and at least secure a European place-finish at the end of the campaign.
