Cobham graduate Trevoh Chalobah has been on the fringes of the Chelsea first team this season, but that hasn’t deterred the defender from undergoing an impressive physical transformation.
The 23-year-old made his Chelsea debut in grand fashion, as he started the 2021 UEFA Super Cup final against Villareal, and ended up with a winners medal on his very first senior outing in Blue.
Chalobah would continue to get plenty of playing time under former manager Thomas Tuchel, and he appeared to be inches away from cementing a first-team spot.
But with key defensive departures, the new administration at Chelsea were forced to dip into the market for reinforcements.
In came the likes of Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Wesley Fofana, effectively rendering Chalobah as the 4th choice option.
The center-back has played 23 matches so far this season, with a decent portion of them being substitute appearances. In comparison, he made a total of 31 appearances last season, with a majority of them coming as a starter.
The competition for CB slots at Chelsea is unlikely to ease up any time soon, especially with future prospect Levi Colwill returning from loan next season.
In circumstances such as these, young players can often face a loss of morale.
But Chalobah has remained firm, the 23-year-old continues to put in the work. And his performance coach James Ralph recently shared some details about the progress he has made.
Trevoh Chalobah’s incredible physical transformation
Shared through an Instagram post, Ralph outlined exactly how hard Chalobah has worked on his physical conditioning.
He stated that the center back’s physical transformation occurred over a period of 6 months, before calling it ‘phenomenal’. Ralph went on to highlight Chalobah’s ‘incredible’ attitude and he also credited his commitment.
As per the performance coach, the defender’s results have ‘skyrocketed on all fronts’, key amongst them being strength, power, and speed.
To provide evidence for his claims, attached to the post was a comparison image, displaying Chalobah’s physique before and after his 6-month routine.
The ‘before’ image, dated September 2022, shows the Chelsea player in an untoned state. There appear to be traces of fat around his abdomen, and his arms evidently lack muscle definition.
Fast forward to March of 2023, and as the image suggests, Chalobah is now ripped.
His abs are clearly tighter than before, especially around the abdomen. His upper body also looks noticeably wider, and his biceps looks far bulkier.
Going by the mentioned dates, Chalobah’s insane transformation looks to have occurred over the World Cup break. The defender clearly used his free time to great effect.
No matter your opinions on the player, his commitment is commendable, and hopefully, Graham Potter takes heed of his determination.
