Footballing media has been all about Achraf Hakimi in recent days. The Moroccan has been in the headlines of multiple news outlets amid his divorce from Hiba Abouk.
The 24-year-old right back is a product of La Fabrica. The former Real Madrid man played 9 matches for his boyhood club between 2017 and 2020. It was during his stay at the Spanish capital when the Moroccan met his sweetheart, Hiba Abouk.
The Spanish actress came in touch with Achraf when the PSG defender was at a shoot for Vogue Arabia in 2018. Sparks developed instantaneously between the pair and the now-estranged couple made their relationship public at a charity event in August 2019.
The two tied the knot in 2020 and have two baby boys, Amin (3) and Naim (1).
Jumping ships from elite clubs like Dortmund and Inter Milan landed Hakimi (and her family) a move to Paris. Things were on a high for the Moroccan who, with time, has cemented his name as one of the top right-backs in the world, and a mainstay in the PSG backline.
Things recently took an ugly turn in Hakimi’s personal life, however. The PSG defender was accused of sexual assault and has been undergoing investigation since February of this year. The woman in question accused Hakimi of attempted molestation while his wife and children were on a vacation in Dubai.
Hakimi’s camp has denied any wrongdoing on the footballer’s part. His employers, PSG, have decided against taking any action on the defender so far.
That wasn’t the case with his wife, however. Recently, Hiba spoke publicly for the first time about the allegations against Hakimi and affirmed her support for the alleged victim.
The actress filed for a divorce. On March 27, 2023, Abouk came out with a statement on her Instagram account confirming that the couple had previously separated and that they were awaiting divorce proceedings. The reason behind their separation wasn’t made public.
After a whirlwind marriage that lasted nearly three years, Abouk anticipated gaining possession of over half of Hakimi’s estimated €70 million fortune.
However, the 36-year-old was caught by surprise after the revelation of Hakimi’s actual wealth.
As reported by News 24/7, nearly every bit of the defender’s wealth and assets are registered in his mother’s name. Almost 80% of Hakimi’s net worth is deposited in his mother’s account.
This means that despite being formerly married to the sixth-highest-paid African footballer on the planet, Hiba Abouk might end up not earning even a significant sum from her divorce.
Hakimi’s mother, Fatima first got into the limelight during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. She was spotted celebrating with her son after Morocco’s famous victories over Spain and Portugal.
The news spread all over the internet like wildfire and it didn’t take long to catch the eyes of other famous personalities.
Kickboxer and social media influencer Andrew Tate praised Hakimi on the situation. The “Top G” gave his nod of approval to the PSG star by commenting “My G” under the article that broke out the details of Hakimi’s acquisitions.
UFC champion Israel Adesanya lauded the Moroccan and called this a “chess move” by Hakimi. Izzy’s fellow UFC star Francis Ngannou retweeted the article, commenting “masterclass”.
More light will be shed on the case as the proceedings of divorce move forward. It remains to be seen what Abouk’s course of action might next be.
