Liverpool have had an extremely topsy-turvy campaign which will ultimately end up with them going trophyless. The Reds do still have a bit of an outside chance of making the Premier League top-4 but need to win their remaining seven games and hope either Newcastle United or Manchester United slip up.
It’s been quite clear by whatever has transpired this season, where Liverpool have been tormented by multiple injury crisis, that Jurgen Klopp’s side needs a face-lift next season. Despite FSG opting to stay on as owners after initially putting the club up for sale last year, they will give Klopp the necessary funds to make changes to the squad.
Liverpool are expected to heavily invest in improving their midfield line, which currently is among the oldest in the Premier League. They will, as a result, have to sell some players to make room for new-coming players. Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave once their contracts expire next year.
But it appears that those two aren’t the only ones Liverpool are aiming to offload next season, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano dropping a bit of a bombshell of the future of a talented young midfielder.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about Fabio Carvalho’s future?
It appears that Jurgen Klopp is ready to offload some of his younger players from the squad to open up space for newcomers too. Romano has reported that Liverpool’s young midfielder Fabio Carvalho is now expected to leave the club in the summer transfer window.
However, there is still not exact clarity over what type of departure Liverpool have planned for him. Considering that the Portuguese midfielder was initially signed in 2021 as part of plans for the future, he could be loaned out to another club to get more regular playing time in the 2023/24 season.
Romano said: “Fabio Carvalho, I’m told is also leaving. We’ll have to see what kind of solution they will find, but he is young and never playing!” The 20-year-old midfielder has a contract until 2027 at Anfield, which would make it surprising if he’s sold in the summer.
How Liverpool fans feel about Klopp’s treatment of Carvalho
The majority of Liverpool fans have been annoyed and shocked by the bombshell that Romano dropped on the future of Carvalho. The 20-year-old is a pretty popular figure among the fans for his exciting playing style and high ceiling for the future.
However, Carvalho has only made 21 appearances for the Reds this season – scoring three goals in that. But that has only included eight starts, out of which he’s only been allowed to complete 90 minutes once all season long.
A lot of Liverpool fans have been aggravated with Carvalho’s situation and feel that Jurgen Klopp might’ve mistreated him all season long.
Fans were left raging after the 20-year-old was brought on in the final minutes in the second leg of Liverpool’s Champions League Round of 16 clash against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu – when there was nothing to play for.
Some fans believe that Klopp should’ve played him ahead of ageing players like James Milner or Jordan Henderson. Even the biggest supporters of the German manager have accused him of wasting Carvalho’s talent and badly misusing him.
For the time being, it appears that Liverpool are aiming to give Carvalho an opportunity to restart his career at another club – as it remains to be seen if he’s just loaned out to get more playing time somewhere else next season or just permanently sold altogether.
