PSG‘s new away kit for the forthcoming 2023/24 season is here and it’s making waves for more than one reason.
On Sunday morning, the Ligue 1 champions launched their new white away kit during the inaugural WE RUN PARIS – 10KM race.
While Neymar and Kylian Mbappe dominated the promotional pictures, the launch featured stars from different sports, including athletes Caster Semenya, and Ladji Doucoure. Former player and the current manager of PSG U19 Zoumana Camara also wore the jersey.
Traditional Parisian colours inspire the new PSG white kit
Nike added the club’s traditional red and blue strip over the white shirt that highlighted the white font colour of the Qatar Airways sponsor more than usual.
They also returned to their ‘Nike swoosh’ branding rather than a Jumpman logo, which was one of the main features of the last season’s away kit. Jordan branding is not present in the home kit as well.
But leaked images for the season’s third kit show the basketball’s iconic name will be featured on the top that will see a combination of base black colour and light beige detailing.
The iconic club crest with the Eiffel Tower was also left in its original colour, giving a brilliant appearing contrasting effect of bold shades on pristine white background.
PSG says the shirt features Nike Dri-FIT technology which is “innovative in both its fit and its fabric” to help keep the players dry for over 90 minutes. The breathable FIT ADV weave wicks away sweat, keeping the players cool and comfortable until well after the final whistle.
Reactions on Twitter suggest fans are really liking the top’s simple and clean white look. But an eagle-eyed fan found that PSG’s away kit is way too familiar looking.
Apart from being inspired by the local Parisian colours, it’s incidentally also drawing some inspiration from Portugal’s 2022 World Cup away kit. The only clear difference appears to be the colour scheme in the block just below the Nike Swoosh. It was based on the country’s green-and-red flag.
Twitter user Stephanie added PSG have always managed to hit the nail with regard to their kits. And it’s hard to disagree considering the still memorable look of grey with a black centre strip of last season’s Jordan away kit.
Barcelona fans, who filled the replies section with the idea of Neymar returning to Camp Nou, also noted the players weren’t smiling in the promotion pictures. User Barca Spaces appeared to claim that despite their riches, the Ligue 1 giants can’t afford to get their stars to smile.
The white away kit would cost $163, as expensive as PSG’s marquee signings!
