Cole Palmer was involved in a surprising deadline-day transfer as he decided to join Chelsea from Premier League champions Manchester City, and just before the deal was announced, a brilliant video showcasing his rap skills went viral on social media.
The Manchester-born 21-year-old winger actually seems to be really into the rap music genre, especially with his love for reggae music as well. In an interview with Versus last year, Cole revealed that he was really into the UK Rap Music scene and isn’t that big of a fan of popular rapper J. Cole.
Palmer self-admitted stated that people would probably be surprised with his love for rap or reggae music, as he said: “You probably wouldn’t know the guys I’m into.” He revealed his love for Chorlton rapper Tunde, as well as his liking for artists like Digga D – both of whom are UK rappers who are gaining more popularity in the country.
Cole Palmer’s rap Tiktok goes viral
There could be a reason behind his love for Jamaican music and the rap scene, because he is actually of Kittian (Saint Kits and Nevis) heritage due to his father. Amid this, an old video of Palmer from TikTok has gone viral, which seems to be recorded by his partner Jennifer Palmer.
In the video, Palmer can be seen entering an empty room with a football boot hanging on the wall. He comes in and starts lip-synching to a rap song playing in the background, acting like a rapper hosting a concert and trying to his ‘bars’ with his rapping.
The 21-year-old doesn’t really manage to nail the rap lyrics, struggling at times to keep up with the words that are being sung through the song. But his hilarious rendition of this and attempts to be a rapper has had this video go viral after his move to Stamford Bridge.
Which rap song is Palmer imitating?
It also appears that Palmer is rapping a song created by Jamaican rapper and reggae artist Vybz Kartel. The song in question is ‘Clarks’, a hit single from the artist released in 2010. Palmer appears to be trying his best to rap the chorus part of the song, which also features Jamaican artist Popcaan and singer Vanessa Bling.
The chorus goes something like this:
Real badman nuh model inna shorts
Straight jeans, cut off foot pants
Everybody haffi ask weh mi get mi Clarks
Everybody haffi ask weh mi get mi Clarks
Di leather hard, di suede soft
Tooth brush get out di dust fast
Everybody haffi ask weh mi get mi Clarks
Everybody haffi ask weh mi get mi Clarks
The song is a clever ode to the Footwear brand Clarks and was created by Vybz Kartel to voice his love for the shoe brand. Palmer seems to be a big fan of Vybz Kartel’s rap song and loved it so much that he decided to make a Tiktok video of him trying to pull it off.
Vybz Kartel, of course, has a dark history and his career took a wrong turn after he gained fame following this song’s release. In 2014, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering one of his associates Clive ‘Liazard’ Williams, for which he has to serve a minimum of 35 years in prison.
With that being said, Palmer only seems to be a fan of the rap song itself rather than the convicted murder, who continues to make music from prison. Chelsea fans seem to be loving seeing this side of Palmer, loving the vibes that he shows off in this rap video mimicking and how ‘different’ he stands out to be.
The 21-year-old looks like a fun guy to hang out with, and will aim to create a bond with the rest of the Chelsea squad as he looks to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side win major trophies going forward.
