It seems that Tottenham Hotspur have found a unique celebration style of their own. Guglielmo Vicario found himself in discussion after a mocking gesture towards the Newcastle forward Callum Wilson. But he can’t be completely held accountable for all the blame. Now apparently, his coach also imitated a similar gesture during the match as well.
Having taken just one point from their last five matches in the Premier League, Spurs’ form had taken a nosedive in recent weeks. Postecoglou’s team also set an unwanted record of being the first Premier League team to lose three straight home games after taking a one-goal lead each time.
Tottenham needed a big win to elevate their morale and their convincing 4-1 victory against Newcastle United couldn’t have come at a better time.
Tottenham started the match against NUFC with a lot in line for Ange Postecoglou. However, his men started the match with flying colours as they completely dominated the Magpies. Tottenham opened the scoresheet in the 26th minute as Son Hueng Min‘s low-hit pass fell nicely into the path of Udogie, who had his run unnoticed as he tapped the ball for his first goal for the club.
Thanks to Richarlison’s brace, Tottenham effectively put the game to bed in the 60th minute. Apparently, Postecoglou could not contain his glee when Richarlison buried home the third. The 58-year-old stuck his tongue out in a somewhat bizarre fashion after the goal before going on to hug Pedro Porro and Cristian Romero.
Postecoglou is normally a controlled figure on the touchline. Therefore when his team scored, his peculiar reaction was somewhat out of character. Postecoglou was left raging by their midweek performance against West Ham so this win brought out a version of him that was as close to ecstatic as one can see.
Postecoglou’s men had a convincing game with a total of 23 shots at goal and 12 on target. Apart from the four scored goals, they forced Martin Dubravka into seven saves. Brennan Johnson struck the woodwork twice as well.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Postecoglou revealed-“We don’t want to make any more mistakes like we have done. I thought today was fantastic. I hope we can continue to perform like this and stay humble”
“We said we had to be more ruthless. We were ruthless today and were creating chances. We did that fantastic job. To beat Newcastle 4-1 is not easy. They are a very strong side, so credit to all the players and fans.”. Added the Australian manager.
Postecoglou’s sentiments resonated widely with the Tottenham fanbase. Internet’s response was swift and enthusiastic. Memes flooded social media declaring Ange’s tongue greeting as “a mood”.
This win would give Tottenham the much-needed confidence. With this victory, they have climbed up to the 5th position in the table, trailing Manchester City by only 3 points for the fourth position.
Ange Postecoglou would hope that Tottenham continues this run of form and he gets to pull off more such scenes of celebration.
