Aston Villa F.C. are flying high this season. With a total of 36 points in 16 games, they are just 1-point deficit of being Premier Langue Leaders.
One of the main reasons for Unai Emery’s success is his resilient defensive structure with Pau Torres at its center.
Pau Torres has been delivering commendable performances for the team and it hasn’t gone unnoticed among the fans. They have secretly prepared an act of acknowledgment for their center-back.
Aston Villa is scheduled to face Zrinjski Mostar this Thursday in the group stage of Europe Conference League fixture at Bijeli Brijeg stadium, Bosnia. The Villans are all geared up for the match already and they have prepared a new chant for Pau Torres this time.
The chant has been widely circulated on X.com when an Aston Villa fan by the username @HaydenEvans_1 took to the social media to put forth the lyrics. The lyrics go-
“I can’t explain, we’ve got a centre back who comes from sunny Spain
And when he passes with his left,
And in behind,
You know Watkins is gonna score all of the time!
I guess it must be Pau Torres
Na na na na na”
According to him, this chant is inspired by the tune of South Korean DJ Peggy Gou’s viral 2023 hit ‘(It Goes Like) Nanana’.
He has urged his fellow Aston Villa supporters to adopt these lyrics and “Get it going in Bosnia”.
His lyrics were picked up for a video edit as well. The video combined a performance compilation of Pau Torres coupled with the lyrics below it and the background tune of Peggy Gou’s music.
Fans have showcased a mixed reaction to this chant. One-half of the fan base did express their appreciation for the “class” lyrics and their eager anticipation to echo these chants within the stadium.
On the other hand, the other half of the Villa fan base complained about the lyrics being way too tedious and nonsensical. According to them, the lyrics take a turn for worse after the first two verses.

This is not the only time that the Villans have prepared a celebratory chant for him. A similar chant surfaced on the internet when the 26-year-old center-back was reported to join Aston Villa during the summer.
An Aston Villa fan shared the chant with the lyrics:
“He chose the mighty claret and blue, Torres! Torres!
We’re heading for the Champions League, Torres! Torres!
We bought the lad from sunny Spain, To come play for Unai again,
Pau Francisco Torres! Villa’s centre half! “
This video was uploaded on social media that registered over 16M views on YouTube itself.
Pau Torres certainly lived up to the expectations of the fans. Unai Emery has effectively used his impressive ball-carrying abilities to implement a style of possessive football and build Villa’s attacking progress from the defensive line itself.
Statistically speaking, Torres has registered an impressive average of 5.49 forward passes per 90 minutes and ranks 15th among the center-backs for passes into the final third.
According to Opta, Pau Torres has a total carry progress of 2,344 meters this season which makes him the league’s best.
Additionally, his tackles have led to 1.60 expected goals, marking the second-highest total in the league. In his 20 games for the club, Torres recorded 2 goals and an assist as well. It was about time that he got a celebratory chant of his own.
