Alexis Mac Allister has become a beloved player for the Liverpool fans after building himself to be an undroppable regular in the side since joining from Brighton in 2023.
The hard-working, technically adept Argentine midfielder is the heart and soul of the midfield line and someone who often acts as the ultimate binding factor between the defence and attack.
Even though Mac Allister hasn’t scored a goal in the Arne Slot era so far, he’s played a discreetly impressive role in helping the Reds top the Premier League table after six game-weeks.
He might not be as explosive as the in-form Ryan Gravenberch right now, but the Argentine midfielder’s excellent passing ability and proactive nature in midfield is helping his side control games with ease.
Mac Allister’s tenacious work on the pitch and bubbling, humble personality has had Liverpool fans swooning over him.
A bunch of their supporters recently debuted a brand new chant dedicated to Mac Allister as a ‘reward’ for his good work over the last year.
Ahead of Liverpool’s recent 2-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League, a group of Liverpool supporters started singing a new chant while travelling to Wolverhampton.
The Alexis Mac Allister chant goes something like this –
‘Maradona was good, but he was off his head And Messi was alright, till a Tuesday night when he played the Reds Oh Mac Allister, Oh Mac Allister, He’s the best there’ll be from the Argentine Oh Mac Allister, Oh Mac Allister.’
There are a lot of cheeky references to Argentine footballers in this chant. The Maradona being ‘off his head’ is a reference to his temperament during matches and drug abuse scandal.
The Messi one is of course about how the Argentine legend was shut down in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Barcelona in the second leg of the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals.
Quite unexpectedly, this Mac Allister chant is heavily inspired from the popular ‘VIVA Ronaldo’ chant that has been made so popular by Manchester United fans.
The tune for the Mac Allister chant and even the progression style is almost identical to the Ronaldo chant, which the Red Devils’ supporters have now tweaked with a ‘VIVA Garnacho’ chant for young winger Alejandro Garnacho.’
The VIVA Ronaldo chant itself has an interesting origin story because of how it was derived during the Portuguese forward’s initial spell at Old Trafford (2003-2008).
It’s been alleged that some Manchester United fans were inspired by a popular Spanish tune and then used that to come up with this chant.
A Man U supporter on Reddit reveals: “It’s a chant that started in Spain (well hummed in Spain as that’s what they do), made famous by Genk in Belgium and then adapted by lots of other teams. It’s an adapted version of an orchestral piece which I can not remember for the life of me.”
Even though many Liverpool fans are aware how the Mac Allister chant seems really similar to the Ronaldo one, they don’t seem to care about that.
This new tune for the Argentine midfielder is catching more popularity, with supporters praising the groovy nature of this chant and urging the Anfield faithful to start belting this one out during their home games.
This chant is, of course, way different than the version created by ChatGPT when some Liverpool fans used the AI tool to create one for him upon his move to Anfield last year.
The ChatGPT tune probably had more of a ‘EDM’ vibe to it and was one to dance around to, but this new Mac Allister chant is much more fun to sing along with.
Mac Allister is probably not aware of this chant created by himself too, but should be absolutely delighted to see the kind of a beloved figure he’s become among the Liverpool fanbase in his short journey at Anfield so far.
