Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr’s ongoing fight against racism is both admirable yet triggering for some individuals.
The 24-year-old has been the victim of multiple cases of racist abuse during La Liga matches, but his complaints about the same has seen him earn backlash from some people.
Indeed, Spanish YouTuber Koko DC was one of the people who took aim at Vinicius for talking up the racism issue in Spain.
He had criticized the Real Madrid star for trying to demean the reputation of the Spanish football scene.
Koko even claimed that Vinicius Jr often triggers people with his actions on the pitch and then use racism to cover up his shortcomings, as he stated: “F*** it. Vinicius uses racism to justify his behavior, the greatest shame of the black case.”
Well Koko has now received a cold dose of Karma by getting a first-hand experience of racism in a football match.
It happened in a charity match the 30-year-old YouTuber was involved in recently at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium, where he witnessed fans making ‘monkey’ gestures.
This caused Koko to break down in tears after seeing just how disgusting some fans can be at football games in Spain.
A lot of Real Madrid fans have reminded him about how wrong his comments on Vini Jr come off as right now as he has now been entangled in the issue that the Brazilian winger has been trying to fight for years.
Koko has doubled down on the events that happened in the charity game and insists that he didn’t ever feel like any fan racially abused him, as he tweeted: “I did not receive racist insults. I cried from helplessness at the lack of respect towards our guests to the point of throwing objects at them.”
Who is Koko DC?
For those unknowing, Koko DC is an extremely popular Spanish YouTuber or Football content creator.
He has over 3 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. Koko also has over 500,000 followers on his Instagram profile and has gained fame for making funny and entertaining football related videos or skits.
His full name is Koko Dembele Coulibaly and his parents are actually from Mali.
Koko actually has decent footballing experience and has played for amateur Spanish club CE Bescano in the past.
Koko is also a huge Lionel Messi fanboy and a Barcelona supporter, who has also interacted with the likes of Ronaldinho and Luis Suarez. He also often interacts with current Spanish players, taking part in challenges with them.
Koko’s been a YouTuber since 2016 and has close to 300,000,000 views on his YouTube channel.
What happened at the YouTuber charity match
Koko faced the racism issue during a charity match between Spanish football content creators and French football content creators.
The match was held at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, only weeks after Atletico Madrid fans caused their La Liga clash against Real Madrid to be delayed and temporarily suspended by throwing items on the pitch.
The match was played in front of a 70,000 crowd, but some controversy was sparked at the early part of the game.
At one point, French football influencer Brawks was racially abused by a fan sitting in the crowd – who had allegedly made a monkey gesture at him.
This caused an outcry, with the French players backing their teammate and Koko trying to defuse the situation.
In the end, Koko DC ended up seeing with his own eyes how brutal the racial abuse can be during matches.
He was reduced to tears by this depressing moment that happened to help money for charity.
Even though the French players left the pitch after this moment, they returned later on to complete the game which Spain won by a 2-0 margin.
After the clash, Koko has been bombarded by Real Madrid fans reminding him of his comments about Vinicius and how he got a first-hand display of how disruptive some racial abuse cases can be.
He has since released a new video on his YouTube channel acknowledging the racism issue, but he didn’t really apologize to the Real Madrid star for his past comments.
It’s clear that Koko DC is sticking to his principles that racism is not an overbearing problem in Spanish football, even though he literally just witnessed it happen in front of him at a stadium like the Wanda Metropolitano.
