Slot’s 9/11: LFC Twitter Reacts to Arne Slot’s Nottingham Forest Obsession

Arne Slot’s arrival at Liverpool marked the dawn of a new era for the club, and it wasn’t one that came without its fair share of anticipation and skepticism.

Hailing from Bergentheim in the Netherlands, Slot made his name with Feyenoord, where his tactical acumen and attention to detail gave him a 65% win rate and a couple of trophies- the Eredivisie title and the KNVB cup to show for the wins.

His dominance at Feyenoord was epitomized by the fall and humbling of Ajax, whom they thrashed 4-0 at home and 6-0 away in the 2023 season, cementing at that point, Slot’s reputation as one of the most exciting managers in Europe.

For Ajax fans, Slot’s move to Liverpool was nothing short of “the best news of the year.” However, for Pep Guardiola and the Premier League’s elite, Slot was emerging as a formidable competitor.

Slot embodies a manager who leaves nothing to chance. This mindset has seamlessly translated to his early tenure at Liverpool, where his eye for the minutiae has already got fans talking.

Top of the Table but Haunted by One Loss

His start to the season has been nothing short of remarkable, with Liverpool already asserting themselves as serious contenders both in the Premier League and the Champions League.

However, in what seems to be typical Slot fashion, he remains far from satisfied. In an interview with TNT, when asked about the key to his “brilliant” start, Slot quipped, “Brilliant would be 9 out of 9.”

For most, a near-perfect start would be something to celebrate, but for Slot, there is a nagging imperfection that haunts him—the dropped points in a frustrating 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.

That match, where Liverpool were beaten despite their dominance in possession and chances created, has become a point of obsession for Slot.

He has referenced the game multiple times in interviews, often unprompted, as if that single blemish is a thorn in his side.

“We felt it, that the fans felt it. They were really there for us today. In the end, you get the same amount of points as if you play Nottingham Forest,” he said after a hard-fought victory against Chelsea, circling back to the Forest result as if it were a wound that hasn’t healed.

For a manager as detail-oriented and driven as Slot, it’s clear even one misstep is enough to provoke countless sleepless nights. Fans love this obsessive, but winning mindset from Slot.

It’s clear though, his pursuit of perfection, attention to detail, and uncompromising, ruthless nature is what has gotten Liverpool top of the table. Not to forget they are also the only side in the league averaging xG of less than a goal a game.

As Liverpool’s season unfolds, fans can only wonder if Slot will ever be satisfied—or if Nottingham Forest’s draw will forever be the “imperfect” stain on an otherwise stellar campaign.
