Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush has taken the Bundesliga by storm in the 2024/25 season. He’s somehow outperforming the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and basically every other superstar to guide his side to be the surprise packages of this campaign.
Before the season began, not many fans probably knew who Marmoush was. Well, that is beginning to change now. The 25-year-old is a highly versatile forward, being able to play as a left-winger, attacking midfield, and centre-forward. It’s in the latter position that he’s really thrived so far this season.
Marmoush has 18 goal contributions in 10 Bundesliga appearances, more than any player in the division. He’s tied on the top-scorers charts with 11 goals (alongside Kane), and has seven assists – more than anyone else.
The Eintracht Frankfurt manager Dino Toppmöller has hailed his influence and spoke about his biggest assets earlier this season, claiming: “He’s responsible for producing danger up front, firing in goals and setting up others. He’s very difficult to defend due to his pace and how fast he can run deep. He can also sneak in from close range, exhibit a great touch and play some great balls. He’s in outstanding form at the moment, and he’s feeling comfortable. That’s the key to his success these days. He feels comfortable with this club and the group, and is thus a key component for us.”
With 14 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, the Egyptian star is incidentally one of the two players in Europe’s top-5 leagues to have reached double digits in goals and assists. The other player? Mo Salah.
Marmoush is Salah’s teammate for the Egypt national team and is a big admirer of the Liverpool superstar. He voiced his adoration of Salah earlier this year, stating: “I’m learning everything from Mohamed Salah on and off the pitch.
“It’s a great honour to play alongside one of the best players in the world. I always learn from him how to become a professional, both on and off the field. He’s like a big brother to me and the other young players. He talks to us about sleep, work ethic – everything. I constantly seek his advice and benefit from his vast experience in matches. Playing alongside him is a fantastic feeling.”
The 25-year-old has endured his struggles and had to work extra hard to get to the stage he’s at today. It was Wolfsburg who brought Marmoush from Egypt to Germany in 2017, and he was contracted for them until 2023.
During that period, he played for Wolfsburg’s senior team as well as enjoying loan spells at St. Pauli and Stuttgart. Even though Marmoush scored seven in 21 league games for St. Pauli and three in as many for Stuttgart, it was only after moving to Frankfurt in 2023 that he started to soar.
He raked up 23 goal contributions (17 goals, six assists) across all competitions in his debut season for them. The Egyptian forward’s taken things up a notch or two in the ongoing campaign. Marmoush’s glowing form is also attracting a lot of interest. He’s strongly been linked with a potential move for Marmoush as Salah’s potential long-term successor. Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in him.
It’s safe to assume that 2025 might be the year he makes the jump to a European giant. He is contracted to Eintracht Frankfurt until 2027 and paid a rumoured £25,000-a-week wages, and they aren’t likely to let him go for cheap.
His agent, Ahmed Abdoun, recently hinted that Nottingham Forest tried signing him in the 2024 summer window and opened up on his future, revealing: “There have been offers from English clubs. Nottingham Forest submitted one towards the end of the transfer window, but Frankfurt rejected it as it didn’t meet the club’s valuation of the player.
“The manager [Dino Toppmöller] values Marmoush highly and sees him as a key attacking threat in the team. The Bundesliga is often a stepping stone to La Liga or the English Premier League—players like Lewandowski, De Bruyne, and Haaland all played here before moving on. However, it’s still October, and it’s too early to discuss offers and transfers. Most of the talk is just media speculation at this stage.”
Marmoush is a well versed person and someone who can speak multiple languages. Alongside his obvious Arabic fluency, the 25-year-old is also fluent in English and French (as per his agent). This could be because Omar was born to Egyptian Canadian parents who lived in Canada for six years before moving to Cairo, where he was born in 1999.
French is a vastly spoken language in Canada. Marmoush’s parents were also adamant at him getting the best education as he was enrolled into the Cairo’s American International School. It was in school that he probably learnt English and also took French lessons. Marmoush has revealed that his parents were initially skeptical of his love for football, urging him to focus on education before pursuing his dream. Well, he’s definitely proven that horribly wrong.
The 25-year-old might be taking the Bundesliga by storm, but it doesn’t look like EA (Electronic Arts) appreciates him as much. He’s only given a 79 rating on FC 25, with his best attributes being sprint speed (91) and agility (90). Despite his goal-scoring heroics, Marmoush is just given an 80 finishing and 79 shot power.
He’s the joint-fourth highest-rated Eintracht Frankfurt player in the game. Marmoush isn’t one to care about FC 25 as he keeps silencing his doubters by scoring goals. He also loves pulling off innovative celebrations after scoring. Recently, he debuted a (fake) blood-soaked mask in time for Halloween.
Consistency is, of course, vital for Marmoush to prove himself as a genuine world class player and not a one-season wonder. If the 25-year-old is able to maintain his crazy goal-contribution heroics and keep Eintracht Frankfurt among the top Bundesliga spots, it won’t be surprising if he’s snapped up by a top Premier League team in the summer of 2025.
