How do you wake up an FPL manager on a wintry morning? Try saying ‘Double Gameweek’ to their ears. ‘Transfer Deadline’ is another smart alternative.
We have already crossed the halfway mark in Fantasy Premier League 2024-25, with fiery discussions revolving around the template. But something is still missing … The excitement of a double gameweek.
There are few things in life which can match the adrenaline rush triggered by a double gameweek to an FPL manager. However, the wait is over. Here we go!
The ‘Merseyside Derby’ may be a thing of the past, at least in terms of quality, with Liverpool being some lightyears ahead of their local neighbours. However, when it comes to the intensity, the mood, the passion, and the prestige involved, the Merseyside affair which set sail in 1894, can still give many high-voltage matches a serious run for money.
On December 7, when the atmosphere at the Goodison Park was about to get electrified, the match was called off due to ‘Storm Darragh’. Now we have got to know that it has been rescheduled and will be played on February 12.
But there is a plot twist. Both Liverpool and Everton will have a double gameweek in gameweek 24.
This makes the Liverpool assets even more exciting along with some room for consideration about the Everton players. Now, the fortunes are starkly opposite in nature on the two sides of Merseyside. Liverpool is at the top, six points clear with a match in hand, whereas Everton is barely a point away from the relegation zone.
In gameweek 24, Liverpool has two away assignments — against Bournemouth and Everton. On the other hand, Everton will be playing Leicester and Liverpool at home, after its reunion with David Moyes.
I already have Trent Alexander-Arnold(£7.2m), Md. Salah(£13.7m), and Cody Gakpo(£7.4m) in my fantasy line-up. The first two are probably the best bets from the array of top Liverpool assets in FPL. However, you may also consider Mac Allister(£6.2m) or Luis Diaz(£7.6m) instead of Gakpo, as the third Liverpool pick in your fantasy team.
Coming to Everton, no one except Pickford(£5m) appears a viable option to me at the moment. He is one of the best GKs to own now.
But despite earning extra points even when missing out on clean sheets, Pickford will have a stern test against Arne Slot’s red army. However, the Leicester encounter might just work for him.
The strategy should be to keep on adding Liverpool assets over the next two gameweeks, unless you already have three players from Salah and co. Salah is a must-own now and the Egyptian magician is probably part of every template out there with an astounding ownership of 70%. He is likely to set the gameweek 24 on fire!
Liverpool’s fixtures look really kind till GW25 and with form on their side, you should make the most of FPL 2024-25’s first double gameweek.
